The collective breath of Canada has been exhaled. Alexandre Bilodeau became the first Canadian Olympian to win gold on home soil.

Unlike Jennifer Heil the night before, Bilodeau was not usurped by the final skier of the evening. Instead, Bilodeau’s last run would stand as the best of the competition.

My congratulations go out to all Canadians as the monkey has been lifted off their back.

The United States remains in the medal count lead with a total of six. The USA still has one gold medal, won by Hannah Kearney in women’s freestyle mogls.
